Learn about the 1P Cirriform Tarp

Some nights bring calm skies and quiet rest; others test your limits with wind, rain, and uneven ground. The 1P Cirriform grew out of nearly two decades of those experiences - refined through challenges met over thousands of miles.

  • Full-coverage tarp
Front and rear beaks for dependable weather protection
  • Dual-entry
Convenient access from the side or front
  • Taut pitch
Low profile and aggressive curvature for a taut, wind-stable pitch
  • Efficient geometry
Compact, tapered footprint for efficient coverage and space
  • Straightforward pitch
Quick, intuitive setup with two trekking poles
  • Recycled Silpoly
Fabric that resists sagging when wet
  • Trail weight
332g (11.7oz) for the tarp and 381g (13.6 oz) all in

Performance

Constructed from recycled Silpoly, the Cirriform Tarp maintains a taut pitch through the night and resists sagging when wet. Its sleek shape sheds wind and rain, while the tapered form maximizes efficiency without sacrificing coverage. Used alone or paired with a compatible inner net-tent or bivy, it offers a dependable balance of simplicity, protection, and versatility.

Dual Entry

The Cirriform uniquely offers entry from the front or the side. Changing the entry is as easy as moving a clip from one side of the zipper to the other. The side-entry makes getting in and out of your shelter a breeze, while the front-entry is best used when it’s raining to avoid exposing the sleeping area to precipitation. On clear nights, we love leaving the side tied back for views of the stars.

Pair it with an inner

Pair the Cirriform with a bivy or net-tent to create a lightweight, double-wall shelter. We’re partial to our Y-zip Bug Bivy and 1P Bug Shelter, but many other brands’ inners will work too!

Save money when you pair it with our Bug Bivy or Bug Shelter to create the DW System.

Compatible with: Bug Bivy, 1P Bug Shelter, Bug Canopy

Hang loops

Hang loops for suspending inners are placed under each apex and near the corners. When pitched low, the loops help keep floating tub floors elevated - just run the corner lines through the loops before clipping to the tarp.

Trekking pole supported

Designed to use your trekking poles for support, the Cirriform accommodates front poles from about 94 cm to 112 cm (longer poles can also work - see pitching instructions). Poles collapsed to 66–84 cm are best for the foot end, though longer poles can be adapted.

Optional pole sets are available for those who prefer to travel without trekking poles.

Recycled, 20D Silpoly

The Recycled 20D Silpoly fabric uses a silicone-based coating on both sides. Silpoly absorbs less water than silnylon, reducing surprise weight, while lower sag ensures the tarp stays taut through the night.

    • Weight: 40-41 gsm | ~1.2 - oz/yd2
    • Hydrostatic Head: ~1800mm
    • Outer face coating: Silicone-based
    • Inner face coating: Silicone-based
    • PFAS Free: Yes

Seam sealing: Due to the silicone coating, the seams cannot be taped and need to be manually sealed with seam sealer. You can do this yourself or use our seam-sealing service. Seam sealer is available here, and more information can be found on our Seam Sealing page.

Pitching

Start by staking out the corners of the tarp to establish your base. Raise the poles at the peaks and stake them to form the shelter’s shape. Adjust and tension the lines evenly for a tight, balanced pitch.

Required items (not included):

  • Front Pole: About 44" - 45" (~111 - 114 cm) if pairing with the Bug Shelter or 39" - 42" (~99 - 107cm) if pairing with the Bivy
  • Rear Pole: At least 31" (~79cm) if pairing with the Bug Shelter or at least 26" (~66cm) if pairing with the Bivy

Notes/FAQ:

  • Do I need a groundsheet or inner? That's up to you, but if you're not using an inner, you'll probably want to use a groundsheet or floor.
  • Do I need to seal the seams? Tarp seams should be sealed using a sealer for silicone coated fabrics (we recommend Seam Grip +SIL by Gear Aid). Optional seam sealing service available.

Product Availability

  • In most cases, items that are available to add to your cart are in-stock and ready to ship. Please refer to the shipping tab or page for expected fulfillment times.
  • Some items may be marked as "Avalable to backorder," "Made to order," and/or show a lead time. In these cases refer to the information on the product page for expected fulfillment times.
  • For items that are sold out, please refer to the production calendar and the Q & A below for more information.

Q: When can I expect the item I'm interested in to become available?

A: For most items, please refer to the production calendar at the bottom of this page. This calendar shows when we expect to work on more substantial products. For some accessory products, production may not always be scheduled in advance and availability may be unpredictable.

FYI: If you do not see the item that you are interested in, then we do not know when it may become available (We're often not scheduled far out in advance and don't have a private schedule beyond what's shown!).

Q: Can I pre-order, back-order, or reserve an item?

A: We don't typically reserve products, however there are some exceptions to this. For example, if someone orders an in-stock Cirriform and wants to also order an out-of-stock Bug Shelter for it, if the Bug Shelter is expected within a couple weeks, we'll usually make arrangements to reserve one of the Bug Shelters and hold the order so shipping may be combined.

On occasion, select products may be available to back-order or pre-order. When this happens, that status will be shown on the product page. If you're signed up for the stock notification, you will receive a notice that the item is available to back/pre-order.

Q: Can you let me know when the item becomes available?

A: Yes. On the product page, enter your email address in the space provided to be automatically notified when inventory becomes available. If you don't see where you can do this, please let me know; sometimes there's a fluke in the settings and the field doesn't show. Please note that the email notification could get filtered out as spam. You can try to 'whitelist' info@yamamountaingear.com to make sure the email comes through.

NOTES ON USING THE CALENDAR

- For products shown on the calendar, you can typically expect the item to be made available towards the end, or soon after the period shown on the calendar. Sometimes, however, some items may be listed earlier in the period. For example, if the calendar shows that I'm working on tapered tarps, certain sizes may become available earlier within the period with other sizes coming later.

- Items that specify "ongoing production" mean that we are continually working on these items and doing our best to maintain inventory. If the item or a particular size is sold out, you can expect it to likely become available soon.

- Please note that you can change the month shown on the calendar using the arrows at the top.
