An alternative to mittens, these pogies are like warm quilts for your hands. Magnetic 'zippers' on the bottoms of the pogies automatically snap shut, allowing you to use your trekking poles or easily free your hands for intricate tasks (check out the video tab to see the pogies in action).
Primaloft Gold insulation is lined with silky soft taffeta on the inside to keep your hands warm. The outer, waterproof/breathable shell resists moisture without becoming clammy.
To use, put your hand through the cinched opening. Pull the one-handed cinch with your other hand to secure the opening around your wrist. Your trekking pole handle slips through the bottom opening. To get the cinch cord out of the way, pass your hand through the cord to situate it around your wrist.
Material:
-
Shell:
-2.5 Layer WPB w/ 10D ripstop nylon face
-Hydrostatic Head: >9000mm
-MVTR (breathability): >27,000 g/m2/24 hr
-black color -
Liner:
-10D Micro grip ripstop nylon
-olive drab color -
Insulation:
-Primaloft Gold (two layers of 4 oz insulation)
-Approximately 1-3/8" thick* at thickest
(will taper to less thickness closer to the seams) - Note: there is no insulation in the wrist area.
- *Due to fluctuation in the insulation, thickness/loft may vary.
Weight** (per pair):
- Small: 3.4 oz | 96g
- Medium: 3.6 oz | 102g
- Large: 3.8 oz | 108g
- **Due to fluctuation in the insulation, weight may vary, usually by less than 0.1 oz per pair, but on occasion up to around 0.2 oz.
Sizing info:
Measure the length of your hand from the base of your palm to the tip of your longest finger to find your size.
- Small: 6.25" - 7.25" (16 cm - 18 cm)
- Medium: 7.25" - 8" (1 cm - 20 cm)
- Large: over 8" (over 20 cm)
There is quite a bit of flexibility with sizing and a few things to consider when choosing your size:
- If you're in between sizes, I generally recommend sizing down.
- If you expect to wear more than a light to midweight liner underneath, AND you are towards the upper end of your size range, then you may wish to go up a size.
- If the pogies are too big for you, they will still work, but they are more likely to be 'floppy' and cumbersome. The magnetic closure also becomes more difficult to open.
- If the pogies are too small for you, then they may start to feel restricting and the closure is more likely to open unintentionally.
- If the pogies are too small for you, then you may be more likely to feel the edge of the magnetic strip which can feel abrasive to bare skin to some people.
- For cross country skiing, you may find larger sizes to provide more freedom of movement and better performance.

Product Availability
- In most cases, items that are available to add to your cart are in-stock and ready to ship. Please refer to the shipping tab or page for expected fulfillment times.
- Some items may be marked as "Avalable to backorder," "Made to order," and/or show a lead time. In these cases refer to the information on the product page for expected fulfillment times.
- For items that are sold out, please refer to the production calendar and the Q & A below for more information.
Q: When can I expect the item I'm interested in to become available?
A: For most items, please refer to the production calendar at the bottom of this page. This calendar shows when we expect to work on more substantial products. For some accessory products, production may not always be scheduled in advance and availability may be unpredictable.
FYI: If you do not see the item that you are interested in, then we do not know when it may become available (We're often not scheduled far out in advance and don't have a private schedule beyond what's shown!).
Q: Can I pre-order, back-order, or reserve an item?
A: We don't typically reserve products, however there are some exceptions to this. For example, if someone orders an in-stock Cirriform and wants to also order an out-of-stock Bug Shelter for it, if the Bug Shelter is expected within a couple weeks, we'll usually make arrangements to reserve one of the Bug Shelters and hold the order so shipping may be combined.
On occasion, select products may be available to back-order or pre-order. When this happens, that status will be shown on the product page. If you're signed up for the stock notification, you will receive a notice that the item is available to back/pre-order.
Q: Can you let me know when the item becomes available?
A: Yes. On the product page, enter your email address in the space provided to be automatically notified when inventory becomes available. If you don't see where you can do this, please let me know; sometimes there's a fluke in the settings and the field doesn't show. Please note that the email notification could get filtered out as spam. You can try to 'whitelist' info@yamamountaingear.com to make sure the email comes through.
NOTES ON USING THE CALENDAR
- For products shown on the calendar, you can typically expect the item to be made available towards the end, or soon after the period shown on the calendar. Sometimes, however, some items may be listed earlier in the period. For example, if the calendar shows that I'm working on tapered tarps, certain sizes may become available earlier within the period with other sizes coming later.
- Items that specify "ongoing production" mean that we are continually working on these items and doing our best to maintain inventory. If the item or a particular size is sold out, you can expect it to likely become available soon.
- Please note that you can change the month shown on the calendar using the arrows at the top.
