The Cirriform SW: one piece, fully integrated

The floor, mesh, and fly are all one piece. No separate inner to clip in or adjust at camp.

Lighter than the DW. For the two-piece modular system with your choice of inner, see the 1P Cirriform DW.

*Available in two builds: Standard for better puncture resistance or Light for lower weight. The Light build is expected to be available late-July.

The 1P Cirriform SW

When you arrive in camp after a long day, a shelter you don't have to think about makes a difference. The Cirriform SW is built around that. The floor, mesh, and fly are one integrated piece. No inner to clip in or adjust. Just pitch the fly, and you're done.

  • Integrated Design
Floor, mesh, and fly in one piece. Simple pitch at camp.
  • More Interior Volume
Single-wall geometry gives you more room inside than the DW.
  • Lighter System
One piece instead of two means less weight on your back.
  • Dual Entry
Side access for easy in-and-out; front access when the weather turns.
  • Compact Footprint
More placement options when flat ground is hard to find.
  • Adjustable Pitch
Stake it low for wind protection or pitch it higher for airflow.
  • Recycled Materials
Tarp fabric and select thread & webbing are made from recycled materials.
  • Two build options
Standard or Light for different weight and floor durability.

The SW is back!

The Cirriform SW has been a long time coming. We made an earlier version in Dyneema® composite fabric, and it was one of our favorite shelters we've ever offered. The original design wasn't compatible with silpoly, so when we phased out DCF, the SW got shelved. We're excited to reintroduce the SW with our new silpoly design. It's the same shelter at heart: one integrated piece, simple to pitch, more spacious than the DW.

Dual Entry

The Cirriform has two ways in, and each serves a different purpose. The side entry is the everyday option, easy to get in and out whenever you need to. The front entry is there for when weather moves in, keeping the sleeping area covered while you come and go. Switching between them is as simple as moving a clip.

Two builds, same shelter

The Cirriform SW comes in two builds. The Standard uses a heavier-coated fly (~8000mm HH), 0.6 oz mesh, and a Sil/PU floor (~4000 HH) for better puncture resistance. The Light uses a standard-coated fly (~1800mm HH), a recycled Sil/Sil floor (~2000mm), and 0.5 oz mesh for a lower packaged weight. The only visible difference is the floor color: black for Standard, brown for Light.

Notes/FAQ:

  • What about condensation? Condensation can happen with any shelter. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but single-wall shelters are inherently more prone to condensation than double-wall shelters. Two things are going on: without a buffer between you and the fly, the relative humidity of the air in contact with the inside of the fly tends to be slightly higher, which increases the chance of condensation forming. That same lack of buffer also increases the likelihood of inadvertently contacting a wet wall (think of the DW as having an early warning system). The good news is that the Cirriform provides enough vertical distance under the fly that you're unlikely to bump into a wet wall from simply tossing and turning in your sleep, unlike many mid-style or side-entry single-wall shelters. It's also easier to manage condensation with a chamois cloth since you have direct access and can easily wipe down a wet wall. For more tips, see our condensation page.
  • What conditions is the SW best suited for? We recommend the SW for three-season type of use. It handles rain and wind well, but we don't recommend pitching it on significantly accumulated snow (a few inches should be fine). The problem with pitching on snow is that if the floor sinks into the snow under your weight, it will pull on the rain fly and risk damage - it ain't no hammock.
  • Do I need a groundsheet? Not required. The floor is durable enough that most hikers skip it, but using one on rough ground will extend the floor's life.
  • Do I need to seal the seams? Tarp seams should be sealed using a sealer for silicone coated fabrics (we recommend Seam Grip +SIL by Gear Aid). Optional seam sealing service available. Floor seams are factory-taped and don't require sealing.

Fly made in Vietnam. Floor and mesh assembled in Montana.

Required items (not included):

The items needed to pitch your shelter will vary depending on your approach. See the Set up & Use tab for more info.

  • Front Pole: ~45" (~114cm)
  • Rear Pole: ~31" (~117cm)
  • Stakes: 6 (8 for better wind stability)

How to pitch

Stake out the corners of the tarp first. Raise the poles at the peaks and stake them out. Tension the lines evenly for a taut pitch. The mesh and floor are built in, so once the fly is set, you're done. It packs and pitches as a single unit.

When zipping up the shelter, THE FLY CLOSED FIRST, then zip the netting to avoid undue stress on the netting zipper.

To open the zipper from the inside, pull the yellow cord to avoid needing to reach into the corner.

The videos below show how to pitch the Tarp and the DW. The pitching process is essentially the same, except you don't have to clip in or adjust the inner.
