$160.00

NEW "t-zip" allows both front and side entry!

Don't let pesky bugs ruin your night. No-See-Um netting keeps out the smallest critters while the tub-floor blocks moisture from below. The tapered shape uses space efficiently and improves usable room inside.

Set up is easy. Just clip the tub's upper corners to your tarp and let the floor hang; flexible stiffeners help the tub to keep some shape. An optional 'stand-alone' rigging kit is available for quick pitches of the net-tent without a tarp.

  • Dual front and side entry!
  • Outward tapering tub walls provide extra elbow room.
  • ~8" deep tub-floor.
  • Interior stash pockets on front door.
  • Hang loop/clip at front apex.
  • Curved sidewall and ridge seams for tauter pitch

This net-tent pairs well with our Cirriform tarps and tapered tarps (though with minimal overhang on the 7'/5' tarp).

The floor of this net-tent is made from SilPoly. See more about material considerations, see our Materials Page.

Included items

Your Bug Shelter comes with the following rigging included. This should be sufficient to connect the net-tent to many tarps.

  • 1/16" Shockcord: 15 ft | 4.57m
  • Mitten hooks: 8
  • Mini Barrel cord locks: 2

Note: Partnering this with a Cirriform Tarp? Please see the bottom of the page for suggested cord lengths.

Installation Process

At the tub's top corners, connect the net-tent to the tarp's associated corner with a length of shock cord and a mitten hook.

  • At one end of the cord, tie a loop. We suggest a simple overhand loop knot.
  • At the other end of the cord, tie on a mitten hook. We suggest a clinch knot.
  • Attach the cord to the tub with a girth hitch. To do this, pass the cord through the webbing loop at the tub's corner, then pass the mitten hook through the looped end of the cord. Pull the mitten hook end to tighten everything up.

At the net-tent's peaks, connect the net-tent to the tarp's ridge/peaks with a length of shock cord and a mitten hook. A cord lock allows you to easily adjust the length of the cord.

  • Note: You will do the following twice; once for each end of the net-tent.
  • At one end of your cord, tie on a mitten hook. We suggest a clinch knot.
  • Thread the cord through the webbing loop at the net-tent's peak (front to back at the head end, and back to front at the foot end).
  • Tie a loop on the loose end of the cord. We suggest a simple overhand loop knot.

Stand-alone pitch (w/ optional rigging)

On nice nights, you may wish to pitch only your Bug Shelter with no tarp. Doing so is easy and only requires 4 stakes with the optional stand-alone rigging kit. Click here to see a diagram.

  • On each cord you'll find a grommet at the center and two loops tied at each end.
  • For each end of the net-tent, clip the shockcord running from the apex to the loop at the grommet.
  • Clip the shockcords running from the tub corners to the second loop up on each end of the cord.
  • Stake out the ends of the cords so the tub's corners are pulled evenly at all four corners
  • Insert your poles into the grommets and tension the apexes as necessary using the cordlocks at the apex. Note that if your front pole is on the shorter side, you may need to lean it inward.
  • If you need to shorten the lines, move each stake and the lines up by one loop.

Stand-alone pitch (traditional method)

If you already have cord and/or want to forego the optional rigging kit, you can use a more traditional pitch with dedicated guylines running to each peak.

  • Stake out the apexes and corners individually.
  • At the corners, you may find it beneficial to shorten the lines by clipping them back to the webbing loops at the tub's corners (basically folding the cord in half)

Pitching with the Cirriform Tarp?

If you plan to partner your net-tent with our 1P or 2P Cirriform Tarp, we suggest cutting your cords to the lengths outlined below.

1P Cirriform Tarp

  • Front peak: ~10" | ~25cm
  • Rear peak: ~15" | ~38cm
  • Tub corners at front: ~16" | ~41cm
  • Tub corners at rear: ~12" | ~31cm
  • Midponts on edge of tub: ~10" | ~25cm

2P Cirriform Tarp

  • Front peak: coming
  • Rear peak: coming
  • Tub corners at front: coming
  • Tub corners at rear: coming
  • Midponts on edge of tub: coming

Product Availability

Unless otherwise stated, if the item is available to add to your cart, then it is in-stock and available to ship. Please see the shipping tab for expected fulfillment times.

If the item is marked as "sold out" or "available to backorder" then please refer to the production calendar and the FAQ below for more information.

Q: Why is so much stuff sold out?!

A: As a solo-operation, my capacity is very limited, and I can't make products nearly quickly enough to meet demand. I only sell what I have in-stock, and don't typically take backorders. I know this can make it hard for you to plan, but in the longer term, it should help me to serve you better. See the last question for more info about this. (UPDATE: I've hired some help which should help improve product availability, but I still expect many items to often be sold out)

Q: When can I expect the item I'm interested in to become available?

A: For most items, please refer to the production calendar at the bottom of this page. This calendar shows when I expect to work on more substantial products. For some accessory products, production may not always be scheduled in advance and availability may be unpredictable.

FYI: If you do not see the item that you are interested in, then I do not know when it may become available (I don't have a private schedule beyond what's shown!).

Q: Can I pre-order, back-order, or reserve an item?

A: I'm afraid not. Out of fairness to everyone, I don't make special arrangements to reserve products. On rare occasions, I may open a product up for back-ordering to everyone (or a new product for pre-ordering). When this happens, it's made available to order on the website. If you are signed up for the stock notification, you will receive a notice that the item is available to order.

Q: Can you let me know when the item becomes available?

A: Yes. On the product page, enter your email address in the space provided to be automatically notified when inventory becomes available. If you don't see where you can do this, please let me know; sometimes there's a fluke in the settings and the field doesn't show. Please note that the email notification could get filtered out as spam. You can try to 'whitelist' info@yamamountaingear.com to make sure the email comes through.

Q: Why do you do things this way, and what are you doing to improve the situation?

A: For years I followed the more common back-order model, basically making everything to order. This approach made it challenging to increase production, limited time available to design new products or refine existing ones, impacted my personal/outdoor time, and meant long waits to get your gear delivered. I changed my approach when I moved to Montana in 2019. Offering only what's already made allows me to work and plan more efficiently, and makes hiring help much more feasible. I'm currently in the process of hiring, and hopefully you'll start seeing more products stay in stock a little bit longer soon.

NOTES ON USING THE CALENDAR

- For products shown on the calendar, you can typically expect the item to be made available towards the end, or soon after the period shown on the calendar. Sometimes, however, some items may be listed earlier in the period. For example, if the calendar shows that I'm working on tapered tarps, certain sizes may become available earlier within the period with other sizes coming later.

- Please note that you can change the month shown on the calendar using the arrows at the top.
