Simple, fully enclosed insect protection with a tub-floor and wind-resistant upper.
The Wind Bivy features our unique "Y-zip" to allow entry from the front, side, diagonal, or above. It's a great for use during cooler weather, as well as in locations with blowing sand. The woven, wind resistant upper provides high breathability and good transparency, with additional splash protection.
- "Y" Zipper provides entry from the front, top, or either side
- Upper material maintains visibility to the outside world
- Highly breathable, yet wind resistant upper
- Vented apex
- DWR treated, splash resistant upper
- Silpoly Tub-floor
Note that since the upper restricts airflow, it will retain some warmth and may become stuffy in warmer, humid weather. We've added venting to the apex, to reduce this, but in such environments, our Bug Bivy would be a better choice.
The bivy is best used under a-frame style tarps with the points above the head and foot suspended off of you. Create a tub-floor by clipping the top corners of the floor to your tarp. If you prefer to keep things simpler, just let the bivy drape over you, maybe suspending the front apex to keep the fabric off of your face.
Partners well with our:
*When paired with our Cirriform tarp, the longer option will fit under the Regular Length 1P Cirriform Tarp.
Made in the USA from imported materials.

The tub-floor is intended to be suspended from its top corners by clipping them out to your tarp's corners using the included rigging. Suspend the upper off or your face and feet by clipping it to points above. For recommendations on how to install the rigging, please see the "Rigging" tab.
You may wish to seam seal the corners of the tub-floor. It shouldn't be necessary for most situations, but may be helpful should you find water pooling on the ground around you.
For simpler set-up when pitched without a tarp, consider using the Stand-alone rigging kit which allows the bivy to be pitch with only 4 stakes and your poles. For more information, please see the link.
To get started
Included: Rigging (shock cord, mitten hooks, and cord locks) is included with the bivy. See the Specs for exactly what the bivy comes with.
You'll want to attach rigging to 6 to 7 locations on the bivy: top corners of the tub (4), apexes (2), middle of ridge (1)(optional on Ridge & Y-zip).
To determine the length of the cords: Lay the bivy under your pitched tarp. Then, measure the distance from the bivy's corner to the tarp's associated corner. Cut the shock cord to that length (the two front lengths should be equal, as should the two lengths at the foot).
To install the cords:
You don’t need to follow our method, but this is how we like to do it.
At the corners
- Tie a loop on one end of the shock cord. We like to use a simple overhand loop knot.
- Using a clinch knot, tie on a mitten hook to the other end of the cord.
- Attach the loop end of the cord to the tub with a girth hitch.
At the apexes
- Tie a loop on one end of the shock cord using an overhand loop knot.
- Pass the free end of the cord through a cord lock.
- Pass the free end of the cord through the small webbing loop at the apex.
- Using a clinch knot, tie on a mitten hook to the free end of the cord.
- NOTE: On the Ridge & Y-zip, webbing loops are found on both sides of the zipper at the front apex. Pass the cord through the loop on the side opposite the side you'd like to bivy to open towards.
Optional on the Ridge and Y-zip bivys
- Repeat the process used for the apex lines at the middle of the bivy's ridge.
Stand-alone rigging kit:
For pitching the bivy on its own, we also offer a stand-alone rigging kit. This lightweight kit allows you to pitch the bivy with your poles and just four stakes. Please see the rigging kit's page for more information and instructions.
Product Availability
- In most cases, items that are available to add to your cart are in-stock and ready to ship. Please refer to the shipping tab or page for expected fulfillment times.
- Some items may be marked as "Avalable to backorder," "Made to order," and/or show a lead time. In these cases refer to the information on the product page for expected fulfillment times.
- For items that are sold out, please refer to the production calendar and the Q & A below for more information.
Q: When can I expect the item I'm interested in to become available?
A: For most items, please refer to the production calendar at the bottom of this page. This calendar shows when we expect to work on more substantial products. For some accessory products, production may not always be scheduled in advance and availability may be unpredictable.
FYI: If you do not see the item that you are interested in, then we do not know when it may become available (We're often not scheduled far out in advance and don't have a private schedule beyond what's shown!).
Q: Can I pre-order, back-order, or reserve an item?
A: We don't typically reserve products, however there are some exceptions to this. For example, if someone orders an in-stock Cirriform and wants to also order an out-of-stock Bug Shelter for it, if the Bug Shelter is expected within a couple weeks, we'll usually make arrangements to reserve one of the Bug Shelters and hold the order so shipping may be combined.
On occasion, select products may be available to back-order or pre-order. When this happens, that status will be shown on the product page. If you're signed up for the stock notification, you will receive a notice that the item is available to back/pre-order.
Q: Can you let me know when the item becomes available?
A: Yes. On the product page, enter your email address in the space provided to be automatically notified when inventory becomes available. If you don't see where you can do this, please let me know; sometimes there's a fluke in the settings and the field doesn't show. Please note that the email notification could get filtered out as spam. You can try to 'whitelist' info@yamamountaingear.com to make sure the email comes through.
NOTES ON USING THE CALENDAR
- For products shown on the calendar, you can typically expect the item to be made available towards the end, or soon after the period shown on the calendar. Sometimes, however, some items may be listed earlier in the period. For example, if the calendar shows that I'm working on tapered tarps, certain sizes may become available earlier within the period with other sizes coming later.
- Items that specify "ongoing production" mean that we are continually working on these items and doing our best to maintain inventory. If the item or a particular size is sold out, you can expect it to likely become available soon.
- Please note that you can change the month shown on the calendar using the arrows at the top.
